![]() ![]() ![]() Navy and Marine pilots developed tactics that capitalized on the Wildcat’s strengths and made it very effective. ![]() The somewhat simplistic story many of us had read was that the Wildcat was outclassed by the Japanese Zeros and Oscars, but that isn’t quite true. The Wildcat was produced throughout the war with the F4F-3 being the first to see combat (as I recall), the F4F-4 adding folding wings, and the FM-2 (the “wilder Wildcat”) was the final version that was lighter, had amore powerful engine, and a taller tail to compensate for the added torque of the engine. By that logic we had the Corsair in the sim so there was no need for the Hellcat, and we have the F-35 so there’s no need for anything before it because who cares about anything but the latest and greatest? Nobody who has any real interest in warbirds or aviation history in general would imply something so silly as that because we have the Hellcat in the sim there’s no reason to have the Wildcat. And it was Wildcats, relegated to escort carriers by that time while the fleet carriers had Hellcats, that threw themselves at the Japanese battleships without any anti-ship weapons at the Battle off Samar, even making fake strafing runs after their machine gun ammunition was expended to distract the enemy. Planes like the Hellcat and Corsair may have won the air war over the Pacific, but the Wildcat is the plane that kept it from being lost before they could arrive. USMC Medal of Honor winner Henry Elrod sank a Japanese destroyer in a Wildcat at Wake Island, the first Japanese warship to be destroyed by American aircraft in the war. It was the Navy’s fighter at pivotal battles like Guadalcanal and Midway. It’s the plane men like Thach and O’Hare became famous in. It couldn’t match the A6M’s performance but it made up for that with ruggedness. We'll also be using the tutorial missions a fair amount. The Wildcat was the plane that held the line for the US Navy in the early days of the war against the Zero. You do not get penalised for doing this and cuts the game down from a 200+ hour game to less than 60 hours. As the walkthrough goes on, you'll be directed less as you'll learn what to doįor the most part of the walkthrough we're going to do some of the very first missions properly and once we've unlocked some vehicles we can start skipping missions. Even though the job does a great job of giving you lots of help, it's not always clear exactly what you have to do. Lastly, I have written the tutorial part of the game in full and some reminders along the way. They are story based and can only be missed if you skip the mission. Secondly, there are only 2 missable achievements and I have marked these on the guide. Use the achievement tracker on your profile to good use. The achievement trackers on the game are perfect, I never had any issue with achievements not unlocking or tracking incorrectly and all unlocked when expected so use these to figure out how long you have left. The achievements for buying vehicles will be the last we're going for and the only achievement that is slightly a pain is the 100 medals but there are 120 in the game and very easy to find.įirst up. I've also detailed the the quickest and easiest missions to grind. Feel free to dip in/out of the walkthrough however I have detailed the quickest way to get through this. You shouldn't need to worry about money during the game, it comes fast and plentiful. It is a relatively fun, long and grindy simulator that will take 40-50 hours to complete, we're going to be utilising some of the fastest ways to complete jobs, skip missions and amass money. ![]()
